Week 2 of The Bachelorette was a rough one for a lot of people. Several guys lost their clothes, Craig Muhlbauer lost his dignity, and Andi Dorfman nearly lost faith in the whole dating-25-guys-at-once methodology. But none of those traumas are what made Andi switch channels for a good portion of the show. So why couldn’t she watch a big chunk of this week’s episode?
In her blog for People, the 27-year-old admits “as excited as I am to start watching the dates, this episode was obviously tough because of the tragic loss of Eric. I remember that first date so vividly, and to be honest, I cannot bring myself to watch it back. I am really happy, though, that you get to watch and see the Eric that we were blessed to have met.” The Eric she mentions, of course, is Eric Hill, the contestant who passed away after a paragliding accident in April.
The world traveler snagged the first one-on-one date of the season, and their itinerary seemed perfectly suited to his adventurous spirit. The duo played on the beach before taking a helicopter ride to the top of a mountain for snowboarding, followed by dinner in a lodge. Andi admits she wasn’t sure if the date would make much of an impact on Eric, a guy who led an enviable life. “I'll never forget wanting to impress Eric as much as I could on that first date. I mean, after all, he was a handsome, humble world traveler who did some pretty incredible things, so I was hoping he would love this adventure just as much.”
Andi’s fears turned out to be unfounded, and the date didn’t seem like it could have gone any better. The beach babe/snow bunny was happy to give the adventurer a rose at the end of the night, and we were smitten by his dreamy smile when he accepted the flower.
While Andi couldn’t bring herself to watch Eric’s portions of the episode, we’re glad we got a chance to see this incredible man. Andi reveals, “I can look back and know that even though we may not have traveled to another continent or some far-off land, we had an adventure of our own that day!” We’re so glad we got to go on that adventure with them.
