Angela Bassett Addresses Whitney Houston Drama: We Have a Job to Do (VIDEO)

By the time filming wraps on the Whitney Houston biopic, Lifetime will be able to make another movie about all the controversy surrounding this one! Since the start, the Angela Bassett-backed film has hit roadblock after roadblock.

People are unhappy with the casting of America’s Next Top Model star Yaya Dacosta as Whitney, they don’t like the fact Whitney’s original voice isn’t in the film, and don’t even get them started on what Whitney’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina, makes of the whole venture.

So what’s going down on set? Entertainment Tonight found out during a recent visit, which gives us a sneak peek at Yaya working her Whit as director Angela looks on. Clearly the controversy isn’t getting these ladies down!

“I respect anyone’s feelings and truths so I mean, I can understand that she adores her mother,” Angela says of Bobbi’s ire over the film, “and in this process, I lost my mother so I get it.”

Angela insists that she anticipated all the talk surrounding the film, both positive and negative. “Around any great opportunity, there will be criticism,” she explains. “You learn to expect that. What you don’t need is to be going out looking for, you know, naysayers. You have a job to do.”

Keep watching the video above to see Yaya performing and hear what Debra Cox, the woman lending her powerhouse vocals to the project, has to say about the “complicated” situation.
