Angry Walking Dead Fans Threatened to Hunt Down and Kill Producers
In another entry for the People Be Cray file, producers of The Walking Dead revealed that some fans were so upset at past character deaths that they threatened to return the favor to the execs. (Who needs a zombie apocalypse when we have each other?)
During a June 8 panel at the Produced By Conference in L.A., producers Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert spoke on the origins of TWD — retelling the story of how NBC passed on the show, before it went to AMC — and discussed the now rabid fan base’s reaction to death scenes. "The fans so identify with the characters, it really is the stages of grief," said Gale (via The Hollywood Reporter). "First they're in denial — 'That gunshot was off-screen, you didn't really kill her, right?' — to getting angry, which is when they get angry they threaten to hunt you down and kill you."
Yeah, we remember all the "Lori Isn't Really Dead" posts after that Season 3 episode, since they let stone-faced Carl (Chandler Riggs) do the deed off-camera. If they got death threats for that, imagine what would happen if they ever killed Rick (Andrew Lincoln) — which comic book guru/producer Robert Kirkman has said they could do at almost any time — or [said in a frightened whisper] Daryl (Norman Reedus).
Daryl's fans have literally threatened to riot if he's killed off the show, so The Powers That Be would have to enter the Witness Protection program. It might not even be safe to walk the streets. Would they dare?
