The Brady Bunch Star Ann B. Davis Dies — She Played Alice the Maid (VIDEO)

This is tough news for fans of classic television, as Ann B. Davis who played the ever-upbeat housekeeper Alice on The Brady Bunch has died at age 88.

CNN reports that Ann died on June 1 after suffering a subdural hematoma when she fell and hit her head in her bathroom on May 31. Ann never regained consciousness after the fall but had reportedly been in good health prior to that.

Ann was born in Schenectady, New York, and had an identical twin sister and older brother. She planned to study medicine in college but changed her mind after seeing her brother's performance as a dancer in the national company of Oklahoma.

Ann is best known for her role as Alice on The Brady Bunch, whom she played on the beloved sitcom from 1969 to 1974. She reprised the role in various TV movies and on several episodes of The Brady Bunch Variety Hour and The Brady Brides. She also appeared in an episode of The Love Boat and played a truck driver in the 1995 Brady Bunch theatrical film.

She largely retired from showbiz in the late '70s after selling her home in L.A. and moving to Denver to join an Episcopal community.

Our thoughts are with Ann's family and loved ones during this very difficult time. Thanks for all the laughs, Ann!
