Meet the new guy! Dancing With the Stars will soon lose Conrad Green, the showrunner for the past 18 seasons, but The Hollywood Reporter has announced his replacement: Rob Wade.
According to THR, Rob worked as a producer on DWTS during the first four seasons and co-executive produced the show under Conrad from Season 5 to Season 11. He most recently executive produced The X-Factor and America's Got Talent, but we'll try not to hold that against him. (Kidding, kidding.)
“I am delighted to be rejoining the show and one of the strongest teams on network television,” Rob said in a statement to THR. “Dancing with the Stars is in great shape and I look forward to getting back in the ballroom and working with [executive producers] Joe [Sungkur] and Ashley [Edens-Shaffer] to take it to the next level.”
BBC Worldwide Productions head Jane Tranter added, "Rob was a part of the Dancing With the Stars family from the very beginning and in our mind, there was no one who made more sense to come aboard and take the show into its next era than him. His immense experience and creativity across live television only further demonstrates that he has what it takes to keep DWTS at the top.”
Conrad's departure from DWTS was announced on April 10; he's leaving after the current Season 18 to work on FOX's new show Utopia.
DWTS hasn't been officially renewed for Season 19 or beyond, but this new showrunner reveal certainly shows faith from ABC and the producers that more seasons are coming. And maybe — maybe — any changes made under Rob Wade will be more like a return to the old ways. It's still not up to the showrunner to bring back the Results Show; that was a network decision by ABC, although if ratings improve perhaps they'll consider giving us Tuesday again. We'll see.
For now, welcome back, Rob! Does his return make you cautiously optimistic for the future, or are you nervous for any potential new changes?
DWTS Season 18 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
