9 of Ariana Grande’s Best Impressions, Impersonations & Lip Syncs (VIDEO)
In addition to carving out a constant spot on the pop charts with her hits like “Dangerous Woman,” the 22-year-old has also put her Nickelodeon- and Broadway-acquired acting skills to use all over the talk and sketch shows.
The latest comes her return to go-to late night stop, The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, on April 25, where she and the host held an entire conversation by lip-syncing hit songs like Beyoncé’s “Sandcastles” and NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye.”
But it’s not just mouthing songs Ariana’s great at — it’s her god-given vocal abilities to imitate everyone from Celine Dion to Jennifer Lawrence.
Let’s take a look back at eight of the pint-sized diva’s other moments where her spot-on impersonations went viral.
“Tidal” Skit on Saturday Night Live
You didn’t expect Ari to go on SNL and not pull out her go-tos like Britney Spears, Celine Dion, Shakira, and Whitney Houston, right? The March 2016 skit spoofing Jay Z’s Tidal streaming service also allowed her to test out a new one, though: Rihanna.
“Celebrity Family Feud” on SNL
On the same night, the songstress also dropped the singing to impersonate a low-voiced Jennifer Lawrence in a “Celebrity Family Feud” skit. From the deadpan humor to the constant self-deprecation, she was spot-on, proving the pop star can still surprise us.
Wheel of Musical Impressions on Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon
This September 2015 appearance was when the former child star’s special talent became public knowledge. Her Celine Dion singing “Can’t Feel My Face” is hysterical, Britney Spears’s “Mary Had a Little Lamb” was reliable,” but Christina Aguilera doing "The Wheels on the Bus”? Just damn impressive.
Celine Dion Impression on Jimmy Fallon
Back to Fallon again! The “Wheel of Musical Impressions” was actually the second time she brought out her Celine on the show. In a more serious, vocal gymnastics moment in March 2015, Jimmy and his guest channeled the ‘90s diva and Peabo Bryson’s “Beauty and the Beast” to magical results.
“I Have Nothing” Performance at The White House
While this wasn’t an impression, per se, it was clear how much Whitney Houston’s vocal tics and mannerisms had stuck with Ariana on her performance of “I Have Nothing” for the Obamas in March 2014.
Rap Songs as Broadway Songs on Jimmy Fallon
The first time the “Focus” singer showed her stuff on the late night show was in September 2013, converting popular rap songs into Broadway tunes. Call this an imitation of everyone on The Great White Way — she should know, she got her start there in 2008’s 13.
Home Video with Brother Frankie Grande
Real fans of the star knew about what she could do long before national television, however, thanks to her home videos like this one with brother Frankie Grande. Sometime in 2010, while she was still sporting her red hair from Sam & Cat, she displayed everyone from Shakira to Judy Garland. Oh, and that terrible baby crying sound.
Solo Home Video
The earliest version might be this clip, taken around the same time as the Frankie one, with Ari all alone, doing her thing. She doesn’t need anything but her vocals to pull this off!
