Young hearts were broken everywhere last week when word got out that Ariana Grande and The Wanted’s Nathan Sykes had put the kibosh on their budding romance. And while the unfortunately-timed Nariana split was a tough pill to swallow during the Christmas holiday, we now have a pleasant memory to keep with us from the beginning of their four-month relationship.

Ariana covers the February issue of Cosmopolitan, and inside, she shares the intimate details of her totally romantic first date with her now ex-boyfriend.

“We were going back to his hotel to watch a movie,” the 20-year-old spills to the mag. “And he had Ladurée macarons and sunflowers waiting—I love Parisian baked goods, and sunflowers are my favorite flower. He had taken the DVD player out of the bedroom and into the living room, because he said he didn’t want to take me into the bedroom on the first date.”

What a gentleman! It sounds like something right out of a movie. How could Ari have let this one go? (Though, rumor has it it was the distance that drove them apart, not anything scandalous.)

We’re actually a little surprised the “Right There” singer opened up this much about her relationship with the fellow chart-topper. In the interview, she goes on to say that she remains wary of sharing her relationships with the public.

"Sometimes people get too fixated on what people are going to say," she says, as she recounts the time the Beliebers revolted against her after she tweeted an innocent cheek kiss with the star. "At the end of the day, you're in a relationship because you love that person, not because of what other people think."

Well, we’re glad Ariana is taking control of her love life and making her own choices! As much as it pains us to see this pop power couple call it quits, we’ve got to respect her for not worrying about public opinion. Now, go enjoy being young and single, girl!
