Even though she was egregiously snubbed the Best New Artist nominee for last night’s Grammy Awards on January 26, Ariana Grande still graced us with her always-lovely presence as a presenter for the evening’s events. But while she began the night looking happy and gorgeous in her signature retro style, the 20-year-old reportedly found herself in tears midway through her walk on the red carpet. So what happened?

According to a number of fans that were in the crowd at the event, Ariana started out strong, but found herself overwhelmed by the hordes of photogs lining the red carpet.

"I first-hand watched what happened. Ariana was happy and she went with the best confidence on the red carpet. She was doing good at first,” one fan tweeted. “But then the paps yelled really loud all wanting her to look at them. She can't listen to all of them at once and they kept ordering her around.”

With her confidence rattled, the chart-topper eventually lost her footing, said the witness. "She made one mistake by moving left a bit too quick and when she tried to move back she tripped. Eventually she got flustered and upset."

Added another fan: "I saw like 80 tweets saying Ariana Grande is crying in the bathroom.” Poor dear!

But those fiercely protective Arianators did take to Twitter to defend their idol. "Ariana Grande is doing her best, but so many people give her a hard time,” starts one supporter. “It's not fair. WeAreHereForYouAriana."

And that wasn’t the only challenge that Ari had to face during music’s biggest night. The Sam & Cat star also dealt with her fair share of criticism from fans and the media alike in regards to her style choices. Her Dolce & Gabbana floral midi gown, though very cute, had many online saying she looked like she was headed to the prom — particularly when paired with her go-to half-pony hairstyle and nude nylons. But Ariana wasn’t about to take those jabs lying down.

“I'll change up my style when I'm ready to, enjoyin the last of my retro phase. More important things like this musicccc, stu for the night,” she tweeted late last night. Haters gonna hate, Ari. Be true to you!
