Ariana Grande has one less (one less) problem on the relationship front: According to Us Weekly, Ari has split with boyfriend Jai Brooks. Again. Their first breakup in 2013 was a little ugly, when he accused her of cheating on him with The Wanted's Nathan Sykes, but when they reunited this past spring it was all hearts and make-out sessions.
But now it's apparently over, and the dark times in Ari's personal life — including the recent death of her grandfather — may have contributed to the split. "It has not been an easy few months," a source told Us Weekly. "Jai just wasn’t as supportive as he could have been."
Ari's grandpa Frank, who was her "favorite person to ever exist," died on July 22. While the 21-year-old singer was mourning, her beloved brother Frankie Grande was in the Big Brother house competing on Season 16. At one point in the house, Frankie turned to the cameras to ask fans to be there for his sister, since the family wanted him to continue in the game. He’s still there, and the season is continuing until late September, so he may be gone for a while.
On August 4, Ariana tweeted an extended note to her 17 million followers, labeled "love u." Here's the full text:
"you learn a lot about love, life & the ppl around you during a time of crisis. July was painful for many reasons but of all the personal loss I suffered last month, the loss of my grandfather, a true gentleman, was the only one that truly mattered. I thank my loves for being so in tune to what is good and right for me and my heart... I hope you will surround yourselves with people who will be there for you thru the bad times, not just the good. I thank everybody who was here for me when I needed them as the ones who weren't really broke my heart. august is about to be a beautiful beautiful month. looking forward to all the good coming up...... it's the only thing we should focus on."
After sharing that note, she tweeted, "a lil vague but my loves know me well & I love u so so so much. here for me thru the good & the bad. that's real! I appreciate u."
That same night, Us Weekly's story came out about the Jai split, with the source saying he wasn't supportive enough, so apparently that was what she was trying to say in her subtle way. And maybe she also wishes Frankie could've been there, even if they all gave their blessings for him to continue in BB16. Either way, July 2014 wasn't a banner month for Ari, but now she's prepping an album release and hitting August with a bang of new music and positive energy.
No one in Jai’s camp has jumped in with another take, but also on the night of August 4, Jai tweeted, “No war let's love.” That’s a good message on its own, whether it had Ari relationship meaning or not.
Good luck to both Ari and Jai on what comes next. … And maybe we should pencil in a reconciliation make-out session for next spring?
