Alex's (Justin Chambers) thoughts of leaving Grey Sloan Memorial on Grey's Anatomy have us all a little anxious — especially since he's one of the show's six remaining original characters — but Jessica Capshaw says that Arizona practically has a vice-like grip on her mentee.
"I do not think she'll let him go very easily," the actress tells TV Guide. "He can't have had her go on the plane and then go off with Dr. Butthole. That's not going to go down well for her."
In case you missed last week's episode, Dr. Butthole is the, ahem, "term of endearment" people have bestowed on Dr. Oliver Lebackes (Patrick Fabian), a surgeon specializing in anoplasties, i.e. the treatment of imperforate anuses. (And that's as far as we'll explain it!)
As Oliver himself admitted, his other pet names include Dr. Poop Chute, Dr. Rear Gear, Dr. Rump Chump, and the Sphincter Fairy.
However, Oliver's stomach-turning specialty does have him rolling in the money, especially as he has his own private practice. The prospect of paying off his loans has Alex tempted to follow Oliver's lead.
But Jessica raises a good point — Alex's decision to transfer to Johns Hopkins at the end of Season 8 inspired Arizona to boot him off the medical mission to Boise out of spite. And when that Idaho-bound plane crashed, maiming Arizona, Alex felt a crushing amount of guilt. Arizona was cool about it at the time, but she could easily lord it over him if/when she finds out he's thinking of leaving again.
How do you think Alex will handle the dilemma? Sound off in the comment section below.
Grey's Anatomy airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
