On February 2, Hollywood suffered a devastating loss in the tragic death of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman. The 46-year-old actor was found dead from an apparent drug overdose in his New York City apartment, setting off a social media wave of grief over the news of his untimely death. Even Pretty Little Liars star Ashley Benson had something to say about the tragic news...

“Don't do drugs.......” Ashley simply tweeted at 11:15 a.m. yesterday morning, shortly after news of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death had broken. She soon followed with a tweet linking a news story on the actor’s death.

We’re not surprised to hear Ashley’s forceful condemnation of narcotics. Just last month, she opened up to Cosmopolitan about her family’s own history of addiction. “There are drugs and alcohol in my family on both sides, so I’ve seen lives ruined, going to jail and all that,” she told Cosmo. “Once you start with any drug, it can be an addiction – that’s why I never want to start and am not even tempted, because that chain is relentless. And if it runs in your family, you see how unglamorous it is. I would never want to be out of control with my body.”

The entirety of the acting world (and beyond) seems to be shaken by Philip Seymour Hoffman’s untimely death. If anything good can come of this tragic event, we hope that it might be a wake-up call for others who struggle with serious, life-threatening addiction.
