In tragic news, six people are dead and seven injured after a gunman went on a shooting spree in Isla Vista, Calif., before killing himself. The suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Elliot Rodger, whose father is Hunger Games second unit director Peter Rodger.
In what has been described as a "a pre-meditated mass murder" by deputies, the shooter opened fire on people on May 23 in the college town located near UC Santa Barbara. After being spotted by police, the suspect fired at the deputies, and so they fired back. The suspect fled in his car and crashed into a parked car shortly thereafter. He was found dead in his car of a gunshot wound to the head.
Police have been informed that Elliot posted a YouTube video on May 23 in which he said he planned to "slaughter the hottest sorority girls at UCSB." Elliot wrote in a blog post: "Being lonely in a beautiful place like Santa Barbara is truly a horrible experience." He added, "I wish girls were attracted to me" but that he didn't "know why they aren't."
Elliot's father was a second unit director on The Hunger Games and directed a 2009 documentary called Oh My God that focused on religion. Peter's stepmother is an actress who was in The Green Zone and a French iteration of Real Housewives.
