Private Practice’s Audra McDonald Wins Record Sixth Tony Award

While we're always biased toward Shondaland actors' performances on Shondaland television, we have to acknowledge that they do have careers beyond the small screen — and that they might even reach greater heights on the outside.

Therefore, we have to give major props to Audra McDonald, formerly of Private Practice, who just picked up her sixth Tony Award on June 8 — meaning she just broke the record for the individual with the most performance Tonys.

The actress behind Addison's bestie Naomi left the Grey's spinoff in 2011 to spend more time with her family in New York City — and we'd say the Great White Way has done her well, considering she has picked up two Tonys in the time since!

Audra first won theater's top award in 1994, winning a Featured Actress in a Musical trophy for Carousel, winning that same category in 1998 for Ragtime. Since then, she won the Featured Actress in a Play trophy for Master Class in 1996 and A Raisin in the Sun in 2004; Leading Actress in a Musical for Porgy and Bess in 2012; and now Leading Actress in a Play for Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill in 2014.

Thus, not only is she the first person to have six performance Tonys, she has also won in all four categories, which is a first for anybody ever.

Get it, girl! And feel free to drop by Grey Sloan Memorial any time.
