As we are all well aware, the thing about Game of Thronesthat gets people most excited is the show’s cinematography. OK — that’s not entirely true. But the show is stunning, visually, and now the parties responsible are getting some much deserved love.
The American Society of Cinematographers has unveiled their nominees for their 28th annual Outstanding Achievement Awards, and GoT cinematographers have managed to nab not one, but two nominations in the one-hour episodic television category. Jonathan Freeman scored a nom for his work on the Season 3 premiere, “Valer Dohaeris,” while Anette Haellmigk is recognized for the job she did on Season 3, Episode 5: “Kissed By Fire.”
The pair who help make the world of Westeros will be facing off against Steven Bernstein for Magic City, David Franco for Boardwalk Empire, Pierre Gill for The Borgias, David Greenefor Beauty and the Beast, and Ousama Rawi for Dracula. Also competing in the category is Kramer Morgenthau, who won the award for GoT last year and is nominated this year for Sleepy Hollow. With two candidates out of eight this year, we think GoT has a solid chance of bringing home some hardware again.
The ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards will be held February 1, 2014 at Hollywood & Highland Ray Dolby Ballroom.
