Bachelor Ben Flajnik Defends Skinny Dipping Date, Explains Why He Dumped Jennifer Fritsch in Season 16, Episode 5

Poor Jennifer Fritsch is not going to have good memories of Puerto Rico. First she's responsible for her team losing the baseball group date, then she's the only one dumped at the rose ceremony on The Bachelor Season 16, Episode 5.

Sure Elyse Myers also got the boot in the same ep, after she confessed that she missed her best friend’s wedding to be on The Bachelor. Ouch! But Jennifer’s departure was more of a surprise since he actually seemed to have a connection with her (as a opposed to someone like Rachel Truehart who... is still in the running! Get it together, Ben!).

So why did he dump Jennifer, the girl he had just had a fun one-on-one date with and announced was the best kisser in the house? As Ben writes in his blog:

Saying goodbye to Jennifer at the rose ceremony was excruciating. We had such a fantastic date in Park City, but as my relationships with the other women were taking off, I knew in my heart that I wasn't going to end up with her. More than anyone else here, I didn't want Jennifer to invest any more of her feelings in me. She is so incredibly kind, and wears her heart on her sleeve, that I didn't want to risk her investing any more emotion in our relationship when I knew it wouldn't be forever. I will always remember Jennifer and the sweet time we shared together.

Aaand of course, there was the skinny-dipping scene in this episode. Ben didn’t want to talk too much about it since much of his pre-season press focused on that teaser scene of him and Courtney stripping down for a dip in the ocean, per her offer. But he did have a defense to all those who thought it was inconsiderate (even skanky) of him to do something like that while there were still a lot of great women vying for his heart:

If I were in Puerto Rico with a beautiful woman I was dating and she wanted to skinny dip, I would be a fool to decline. I treated this situation the same way.

I will admit that at the time I wasn't thinking of the other women and how it would make them feel, and I'm sorry for that, but I can't blame Courtney for going out of her way to spend more time with me – that's why we are all here.

Are you buyin’ it, Bachelor Nation?
