11 Contestants Who Transformed on ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ — For Better or Worse

It’s commonly assumed that Bachelor in Paradise is the place Bachelor and Bachelorette “villains” go to overhaul their images.

That’s often true, with people like Michelle Money and Nick Viall both winning over viewers during their time on the summer spin-off — Nick even got the Bachelor gig out of it!

But transformations can go both ways in Paradise. Who knows that better than swoon-inducing Bachelorette 2017 hunk Dean Unglert, who undid all of his audience goodwill by sparking a Kristina Schulman-Danielle Lombard love triangle?

He’s not the only one who has gone from hero to zero on the show. And there are plenty of alums who have the redemption story they aspired to. Click through for 11 of them!

Bachelor in Paradise airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Michelle Money (Season 1)

Michelle Money (Season 1)

To be fair, Michelle had already done good work on fixing her bad girl image on Bachelor Pad, before she showed up in Paradise. Still, she continued to show herself as the friend everyone turns to for advice, and by the end, fans were rooting for her love story with Cody Sattler.

JJ Lane (Season 2)

JJ Lane (Season 2)

When JJ left Kaitlyn Bristowe’s season, fans only knew him as one half of a bromance (with Clint Arlis) and a cheater (on his previous marriage). A softer side of the single dad came out on his Paradise season, where he was the shoulder to cry on for multiple female contestants.

Joe Bailey (Season 2)

Joe Bailey (Season 2)

This is one of those situations where the contestant was better off not returning to TV. Prior to BIP, Joe was known as Kaitlyn’s fun-loving and hilarious Southern gent. Fast forward to summer, and he was the mean-spirited jerk screwing over single mom Juelia Kinney. Not cool, dude.

OK, so Ashley I. was always the overly-emotional girl who wears her heart on her sleeve. But the tears and princess act went from a little annoying on Chris Soules’s season to totally endearing by Paradise.

Daniel Maguire (Season 3)

Daniel Maguire (Season 3)

When Daniel first arrived in Paradise, we worried he was going to be Chad Johnson’s egotistical sidekick. However, Chad left and soon the Canadian was winning us over with his quirkiness, hilarious one-liners, and sweet friendship with Sarah Herron.

Nick Viall (Season 3)

Nick Viall (Season 3)

As we said before, Nick is the ultimate redemption story in this franchise, as he went from calling Andi Dorfman out on-air to being the Greek chorus (and everyone’s pal) on Paradise. No wonder he was Bachelor!

Evan Bass (Season 3)

Evan Bass (Season 3)

Sure, Evan is still totally a nerd, but one that’s so much more endearing than the guy who whined about Chad on JoJo’s Bachelorette season. His love of now-wife Carly and ability to laugh at himself proved how good of a guy he really is.

Lace Morris (Season 3)

Lace was still a little messy and intoxicated in early Paradise (as she was on Bachelor), but once she settled down and found love with Grant Kemp, she seemed like a fun hang.

Just as Nick went from bad to good, so did Josh from good to bad. The Bachelorette 2014 winner showed his true colors when he lashed out at his castmates for questioning his intentions with Amanda.
