Major Bachelor Exec Shakeup: Is a Bachelor Pad Return in the Works?

It’s no secret that ratings for Desiree Hartsock’s season of The Bachelorette have been pretty darn dismal compared to previous seasons. But while we’ve been concerned that lackluster viewership may result in cancellation, Warner Brothers (the production company behind ABC’s Bachelor franchise) had its own ideas about how to proceed. Namely, hiring Fox special programming vet Mike Darnell.

And while all of that may read like jibberjabber and pointlessness to some people, we think it means at least one of two things. First, The execs who pull the strings on The Bachelor have realized that this season isn’t great and they need someone with mad experience and success to add even more greatness so that The Bachelor 18 is baller. Maybe. Second, WHAT IF IT MEANS THAT BACHELOR PAD WILL RETURN!??!

So apparently Mike Darnell has joined #Bachelornation,” Exec Robert Mills tweeted on July 18. Mike has worked on such hit shows as American Idol, and Alien Autopsy. Chris Harrison chimed in, joking “Uh-oh @fleissmeister & Mike Darnell together again making TV magic!”

But humor aside, should they all be a little worried? Maybe. According to Deadline’s Lisa de Morales, “Shoring up sliding shows is not what Mike best enjoys doing.” Hear that, Des? Straighten up and fly right or you may ruin EVERYTHING for ALL OF US!

Does this change also mean that a rebirth of Bachelor Pad may be in the works? The show is taking a summer vacation vacation at the moment, although TPTB have said they want it to come back. Will it? Possibly, but more likely, some new brainchild may come about.

A source says of the exec, “This is more about getting Mike to come up with stuff; more about getting Mike to do what he does — which is knocking off somebody else’s show or coming up with something fresh. You don’t hire Mike Darnell to be a ‘current’ executive.”

Let’s just hope the show that gets “knocked off” isn’t the one we hold our breaths for every Monday...
