‘Bachelorette’ Contestant Michael Nance’s Cause of Death Revealed (UPDATE)
UPDATE (8/31/2017 at 3:45 p.m. ET):
Three months later, Michael Nance's family and friends finally have some answers for why the Bachelorette alum passed away suddenly at age 31.
That was officially confirmed this week, along with more details of the tragic cause of death.
According to the Travis County Office of the Medical Examiner's autopsy report, the Texan's passing was ruled to be caused by “multiple drug toxicity” from cocaine, heroin, Clonazepam, and Gabapentin.
Additionally, the former rehab counselor — who had been open about his past addictions on the show — was reported to have a history of opiate abuse and anxiety.
Though some might have assumed that anxiety lead to him taking his own life, like fellow alums Gia Allemand and Lex McAllister, that was not the case.
The medical examiner stated that the death was also found to be an accident.

Though no official announcement has been released from his family, a spokesperson for the Austin Police Department Homicide Unit in Texas tells E! News it's not being considered a "suspicious death."
Officials explain that police were called to a location at 2:10 a.m. on May 29 in response to an unresponsive male, later identified as the former reality star. He was then pronounced deceased at 2:54 a.m..
Meanwhile, the aforementioned Arie hinted at a possible cause of death on Tuesday.
He posts, “I will always remember my friend Micheal[sic] Nance for his kind and fragile soul. Addiction is a terrible disease, may he finally find peace.”

When we first met the then-26-year-old back in 2012, he was working as a rehab counselor in his native Austin, Texas.
The aspiring musician and actor opened up about his previous battle with addiction in his Bachelorette intro package.
“I haven’t been as much focused on my love life because the way I was a couple of years ago, no one would have wanted to be around me,” he started.
He continued, “I was addicted to prescription pain medicine. It all starts out fun but then somewhere along the road, it just turns into something else. It’s a vicious cycle and it ate away at me for a long time.”
At the time, Michael was almost two years sober, working hard to give back to others — including the two blind women he was teaching guitar.
“It’s not that easy, you have to completely change your way of living,” he explained. “But my life is really, really good today.”
Losing Michael seems to have hit all of his Bachelorette family hard.
“Very sad to hear about the passing of Michael Nance,” longtime producer Elan Gale tweets. “He was a very sweet and kind man. My thoughts are with his family and friends.”
