Barbara Bush Is Scheduled to Headline Planned Parenthood Fundraiser
Though former President George W. Bush was an opponent of abortion during his presidency and time as a Texas governor, it appears his daughter is not.
Barbara Pierce Bush is actually a supporter of Planned Parenthood and plans to headline one of their events.
The 35-year-old will be the keynote speaker at Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas’ annual Fort Worth luncheon, according to The Texas Tribune.
The money raised will go towards helping the organization provide various reproductive and sexual health services, including abortions.
The Yale graduate’s appearance comes at a crucial time, as the ongoing debate about whether or not Planned Parenthood should get federal funding rages on.
While Barbara’s decision to appear at the event doesn’t fall in line with her father’s stances, it’s not all that surprising.
The CEO and co-founder of Global Health Corps referred to Planned Parenthood as an “exceptional organization” at a sitdown with Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, for The New York Times last year.
Barbara also attended an event for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in Paris, according to The Hill.
It’s clear that when it comes to at least this political stance, father and daughter differ, and it’ll be interesting to see what Barbara does next.
