Basketball Wives LA Newbie Brandi Maxiell Was Diagnosed With What Type of Cancer at 24?

While we’ve grown accustomed to the meaningless (though entertaining!) catfights and endless drama on Basketball Wives LA, the show has taken a more serious turn in its third season with new cast addition, Brandi Maxiell. Though the beauty hasn’t totally managed to avoid some ugliness — she clearly doesn’t mesh with co-star Jackie Christie — she brings some added much-needed gravitas with her cancer survivor backstory.

Brandi has talked about her illness on the show, as well as in recent media appearances. Though she’s beaten the disease, she’s made it her mission to spread the word of awareness and prevention for this particular form of cancer.

But do you remember what type of cancer Brandi was diagnosed with at a young age? During last night’s March 10 episode of Basketball Wives LA, Wetpaint Entertainment asked Viggle LIVE! users that very question, and it would appear you’re all paying attention!

We’re glad to see Brandi’s getting the word out, as 88 percent of users correctly guessed that she is a survivor of ovarian cancer. Meanwhile, 9 percent thought it was breast cancer, and 3 percent believed she overcame skin cancer.

Brandi was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2007 at just 24-years-old. She was also engaged to her now-husband, NBA player Jason Maxiell, at the time, who shaved his head at the time as a gesture of support — aww! Luckily, Brandi’s chemo and surgeries were successful, and the happy couple welcomed their first child in 2011. They are now planning for baby number two! What an inspiration!

Tune into Basketball Wives LA on Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET on VH1.
