Bee Gees Co-Founder Robin Gibb Dies at Age 62

Sad news today from the music world: Disco pioneer and Bee Gees co-founder Robin Gibb died at the age of 62. The music icon was diagnosed with colon and liver cancer in 2011, and battled for 18 months before succumbing to the illness.

Back in February, he was thought to have made a recovery, but went back into the hospital a month later for another intestinal operation.

On Sunday, May 20, a note was posted on his website that read, "The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery."

Robin and the Bee Gees were instrumental in bringing disco to the mainstream with their characteristic sound and style. You can still see their influence today. Just last month in April, hit FOX TV show Glee did a Bee Gees tribute episode called "Saturday Night Glee-ver," which featured hits "Stayin' Alive," "Boogie Shoes," "Night Fever," "How Deep Is Your Love," "Disco Inferno," and others.
