In Sarah Drew’s latest movie, Mom’s Night Out, Sarah’s taking quite a departure from her usual role as April on Grey’s Anatomy. Instead of a slightly neurotic (but generally adorable) trauma surgeon, Sarah’s playing a desperate housewife who just wants a night out with her friends — but is it ever that easy?
We’ve already seen the trailer and a hilarious clip from the movie, and now, we’re getting a behind-the-scenes look at the movie. In Mom’s Night Out, Sarah’s character, Allyson Field, is a “Supermom in progress” who’s looking for a break from the hectic world of mommyhood. And according to Sarah, she totally gets where her character is coming from.
“I love jumping in other people’s shoes and seeing the world through their eyes,” Sarah says. “I just find everything about Allyson completely relatable on every level.”
We’re not surprised. Since Sarah’s a mom herself — to a super cute toddler, Micah — we’ve got a feeling that everything Allyson experiences in the movie is something Sarah’s gone through, too.
“Allyson is a stressed out everymom who feels like she needs to be perfect. This movie’s not just a comedy about parenthood, but it’s a love story,” Sarah adds. “I have felt completely heard, completely valued, part of the team, which makes me feel so invested in it, which makes me only wanna do a better job.”
“I literally can’t imagine anyone else in the role of Allyson,” co-writer and director Jon Erwin says.
