Watch Ben Briley Sing “Bennie and the Jets” in American Idol 2014 Top 11 — March 12, 2014

It’s hard to believe that American Idol started almost two months ago, but here we are watching the contestants fight for a spot on the summer tour! On tonight’s episode (March 12), the 11 remainders contenders will show us their true artistry by taking on “Songs From the Cinema.” We’re actually more excited by this theme than we have been in awhile — so much so that we even picked our own choices for them to sing!

Next up is Ben Briley, who suffered a bit of criticism from the judges last week with his performance of “Turning Home.” Now more than ever, he needs to show them that he knows who he is as an artist and also has the vocal power to win the Idol crown. Deciding to step outside of his country music box, Ben takes on “Bennie and the Jets” from 27 Dresses. While the judges are always encouraging the contestants to take a risk, it doesn’t seem like this one paid off.

“Part of the joy of this show is watching the transformation and watching you guys find yourself,” says J.Lo. “I’m a little bit confused because you were so country last week and now this week it’s Elton John. I’m trying to figure it out. I thought it was a good vocal performance, but I don’t know that it suited who you are.”

"I never know if we've really heard the real Ben," adds Harry. "There seems to be a slight affectation to your voice, a throaty sound. It's hard to describe."

Do you think Ben deserves to make it to the Top 10? Sound off in the comments!
