Beyonce’s Surprise Album to Debut at Number One on the Charts
Three days ago, we thought it would be months before Beyoncé released a new album. Now, the album that she stealthily released in the middle of the night this week is about to become the number one album in the country. Not too shabby.
Proving why she continues to deserve the title of Queen Bey, the singer's new album — which was released digitally on iTunes on December 13 — is selling like crazy and is set to debut at the top spot on the Billboard chart.
What makes this feat all the more impressive is that the sales week officially ends every Sunday, meaning that Beyoncé only had three days to sell enough albums to top the chart. No big deal.
"Our early numbers are showing that this is likely heading toward a No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart with only three days of the tracking week," says Billboard's editor.
As of Friday afternoon, Beyoncé's self-titled album's explicit and clean versions were ranked as number one and number two on the iTunes album charts, respectively.
At the moment, the album is only available digitally, with a music video accompanying each song. However, the album will reportedly be available for purchase in stores on December 21, just in time to slip a copy into someone's stocking. Her last album, 4, came out in June 2011 and went platinum.
Long story short: Beyoncéis definitely irreplaceable.
