Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love” Remix For Fifty Shades of Grey: “She Killed It,” Says Producer
We’re sure that by now, you’ve watched the steamy trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey. While many were entranced by the handsome Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), there was one aspect of the trailer that completely stole the spotlight...
And that was Beyoncé and her sultry cover of her 2003 hit, “Crazy in Love” (don’t act like you were surprised by our choice!). Not only was it super meta (she covered her own song, guys), but Bey worked with producer Boots — who helped the singer with her 2013 self-titled surprise album — to capture the sexy sound.
Boots recently dished to Complexabout Bey re-recording “Crazy in Love,” and the producer, who is also scoring Fifty Shades of Grey, had nothing but praise for the 32-year-old singer because duh.
“It just fits. I like to think of myself as more than just a producer. I look at what we did for the trailer and this version of the song is, very much in my opinion, a score. It was something that I consciously scored,” Boots explains.
“Whenever it comes to the stuff that Bey and I do, I'll never speak for her, but I think that she killed it. She just absolutely killed it,” he adds. “The acapellas that she did gives me chills, so it's really dope.” Um. We’re pretty sure Bey’s acapellas gave everyone chills, us included!
So what was it like recording the track in the studio? “The actual making of the music when I scored it was an incredible day,” Boots says. “I just went into a black hole and just heard it the way I wanted it to sound in my head and all the snares and s—t are me slamming doors around the studio and kicking things over. Nothing was a drum sample in that and everything suddenly started having this breathing life and started feeling more than just a regular song.”
He adds, “Bey killed it with her voice, and the dopest thing was that I got to mix the trailer with the people at Universal who are killing it… It's the craziest s—t I've ever heard.”
There’s only one thing to do, guys. We’re officially nominating a new title for the film: Fifty Shades of… Bey.
