Beyoncé Fans Not Happy With Red Lobster’s Response to New Song
Beyoncé shocked the world in a way only she can when she released a surprise new single and music video, "Formation," on Saturday, February 6. And while there was a lot that was notable about the track, what gained the most attention was when she name dropped Red Lobster in the lyrics.
The internet was abuzz about the mention of the moderately-priced seafood chain in the track, where she sings, "When he f—k me good I take his ass to Red Lobster, cause I slay." Now the restaurant finally responded late Saturday night by tweeting out, "Cheddar Bey Biscuits’ has a nice ring to it, don’t you think? #Formation @Beyonce."
Let's just say Bey's fans were not impressed. Many were critical of the eatery's lateness in their response, coupled with their perceived lack of creativity (they swapped out "Bay" for "Bey" in Cheddar Bay Biscuits... get it?).
"@redlobster you've been gone for hours and this is the best marketing your people can do? somebody is getting FIRED," tweets fan @surfbortx. @DAdeeyo writes, "@redlobster @Beyonce Social media strategy: if this tweet was done during the #Formation firestorm, it'd get an okay. Hrs later? Nah."
Red Lobster then tried to excuse their tweet, tweeting out, "You try to bake Cheddar Bay Biscuits and tweet at the same time! #harderthanitlooks #Formation," followed by, "Our bad. We're really busy for some reason. #ThanksB."
With Beyoncé joining Coldplay at the halftime show at Super Bowl 50 tonight, Red Lobster will have another high profile chance to take advantage of their name being associated with the massive pop star. Hopefully they won't blow it this time!
