It's the 21st century, so we're used to musical artists always attempting to one up each other with new, innovative, and crazy ways to utilize the internet and social media, but the one and only Beyoncé Knowles may have just shut everyone else down by casually dropping an album on iTunes with exactly zero promotion just minutes before midnight EST tonight, Thursday, December 12. Just, Hey, here's some new music from one of the biggest names in the industry, no big deal or anything.
The self titled album, the pop superstar's fifth, has 14 new tunes for fans to enjoy. In case that's not enough, each track also has a music video (also available on iTunes). Oh, and there are some bonus videos as well, 'cause hey, at this point, why the heck not? Bey is even calling it a "visual album."
Unsurprisingly, the album also boasts an impressive list of featured artists, including Jay-Z (duh), Drake, and Frank Ocean. Even baby Blue Ivy makes an appearance (say it with us now: aww).
While the album appeared on iTunes with no fanfare, it didn't take the internet long to catch on (which is presumably what Bey and team were counting on), and Twitter is abuzz with excited fans gushing about this surprise.
In case you're curious, here is the track list for the album:
- 1. "Pretty Hurts"
- 2. "Haunted"
- 3. "Drunk In Love" (feat. Jay Z)
- 4. "Blow"
- 5. "No Angel"
- 6. "Partition"
- 7. "Jealous"
- 8. "Rocket"
- 9. "Mine" (feat. Drake)
- 10. "XO"
- 11. "***Flawless" (feat. Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche)
- 12. "Superpower" (feat. Frank Ocean)
- 13. "Heaven"
- 14. "Blue" (feat. Blue Ivy)
