As a Christmas present to her fans, Beyoncé released the third installment of her “Self-Titled” series on Wednesday night — and this time, she’s taking us behind the scenes of the making of her 14 music videos on her recently released visual album.
In part 3, called “Run ‘N Gun,” Beyoncé reveals how she picked which songs made the album.
“When I started picking the songs that I gravitated towards — because I recorded about 80 songs — it was the songs that were more effortless for me that stuck around, that I love just as much as I loved a year ago when I recorded them,” Beyoncé explains.
The video includes footage of Beyoncé and Jay Z in the studio recording “Drunk In Love,” and lets us in on a secret behind their process: the whole song came together practically as kismet. They took a song that was already written that Bey fell in love with, Jay Z free-styled his verse, and Timbaland provided the rest.
“We weren’t trying to make a hit record,” Beyoncé says. “We were just trying to have fun, and I think you can hear that in the record.”
We also get to see a little bit of the filming of the video for “Drunk In Love,” and we are in love with how precious a couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z are, even at work. Oh, to be Hollywood royalty.
“It’s been interesting the last few videos — we’ve been deciding what we’re gonna do as we’re there, and there’s something about that freedom that is different for me,” Beyoncé adds. “I usually plan things, and I’m trying to rebel against perfection. It’s fun, because you just never know what’s going to happen.”
Part 4 of the video series is coming soon — bring it on, Bey!
