The elevator fight heard ‘round the world had everyone buzzing about what Jay Z could have said to Solange to cause her to lose her cool — heck, an internet meme was even born from it— but another more interesting question begs to be asked: Why didn’t Beyoncé intervene… or really do anything? Well, according to new reports, this behavior is nothing new for Solange.
If you were thinking that Bey seemed strangely relaxed while her little sister screamed at and kicked her hubby, it’s because Solange has a history of outbursts, say Us Weekly’s sources.
"Solange has flipped her lid like that before," one insider reveals. "She is genuinely a sweet and nice person but she also keeps s— real. She can take a small thing and it triggers her."
The 27-year-old is said to have first freaked out in the Boom Boom Room club after the Met Gala on May 5, directing her energy at friend and designer Rachel Roy. Onlookers say Beyonce “got in the middle of it” but they were unable to say what the tiff was about exactly.
That drama continued when Solange, Bey, and Jay got into the elevator and she unloaded a whole bunch of rage on her brother-in-law. But the mag’s source says the couple was able to remain calm as they’ve grown used to her antics.
"This is not the first time this has happened," the insider dishes. "That's why Bey and Jay were so calm. They are used to this from Solange. It has definitely happened before."
A video shot after the three exited the hotel shows the Knowles sisters getting into one car, while the rapper gets into another. Sources say Bey rode with her sister to try and make peace with her family members: "It is a testament to Beyoncé's calm nature how she kept back and played the peacekeeper here. She is so calm and always the peacekeeper."
At the end of the day, we can theorize all we want, but we’ll probably never find out what really happened between the famously private couple and Solange.
