In the snapshot, Queen Bey recreates the famous "We Can Do It!" poster, channeling the Rosie the Riveter persona used during World War II to inspire women to take factory jobs traditionally held by men.
The "We Can Do It!" image was created by Pittsburgh artist J. Howard Miller in 1942 — when Westinghouse Company's War Production Coordinating Committees hired him to boost morale amongst the company's workers. (The woman depicted in the poster was not actually meant to be Rosie the Riveter, but the two have become synonymous.)
In recent decades, the poster has been used as a symbol of feminism, so this Instagram post jives nicely with Bey's recent "boss not bossy" mindset.
The other possibility is that Beyonce is just baring her muscle toward all the gossip mongers who claim she and Jay Z are having marital issues. (We're still holding out hope that they're not!)
In any case, it's not the first interesting Instagram Mrs. Carter posted this week. The other was a seconds-long teaser for Fifty Shades of Grey, which features Bey singing a breathy rendition of the intro to her song "Crazy in Love."
We're crazy in love with this Instagram post, but what do you think? Sound off in the comments below.
