Big News for Michelle Williams! Dawson’s Creek Star Lands Coveted Role
Michelle Williams just got some amazing news, old chum.
The former Dawson's Creek star has already played Marilyn Monroe and Glinda the Good Witch — in My Week with Marilyn and Oz the Great and Powerful, respectively — and now she's about to tackle another iconic role. The stunning 32-year-old actress will be making her Broadway debut in the upcoming revival of Cabaret as Sally Bowles, the character made famous by the one and only Liza Minnelli in the classic 1972 film version.
Performances for the show are set to begin in NYC in early 2014, and The Good Wife star Alan Cumming is in the cast as well. The part of Sally was quite a coveted one, as Anne Hathaway and Emma Stone had both been previously attached. While we love both of those ladies, we think Michelle is an inspired choice. And she is amazing in everything she's in, as her three Oscar nominations — for Brokeback Mountain, Blue Valentine, and Marilyn— prove.
Okay, so Michelle might not be the first person who comes to mind to star in a musical, given that she isn't particularly known for her singing voice (at least, not when compared to a certain other Michelle Williams, who was a member of Destiny's Child). But Michelle has displayed her more-than-capable vocal chops when singing as Marilyn.
