Dancing With the Stars’ Bill Nye Cast on The Big Bang Theory

He may have had to exit-stage-right on the Dancing With the Stars parquet floor after that harrowing knee injury, but Bill Nye won't be disappearing from our TV screens for long: His next gig is an appearance in a November episode of The Big Bang Theory, as The Hollywood Reporter announces.

The science wiz will play himself in the November 7 installment of the show, which also features TV legend Bob Newhart — returning to play Professor Proton, a role that won him a 2013 Emmy — alongside the usual cast, which includes Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, and the newly-engaged Kaley Cuoco.

In the episode, Professor Proton will ask Leonard (Galecki) to help him with an experiment — and Sheldon (Parsons) fires back by collaborating with Proton's rival TV host, Bill's character, "The Science Guy"

Other geeky guest-stars lined up for appearances on the hit sitcom include legendary Marvel comic book writer Stan Lee, Apollo astronaut and moon-walker Buzz Aldrin, and original Star Trek actor George Takei.

As proud fans of Bill Nye the Science Guy, and Bill himself, we're happy to see him invading TV again. We're just surprised that it's taken Big Bang Theory so long to cast such a high-profile scientist!
