We haven’t gotten to see very much of Billie Piper (Brona Croft) on Penny Dreadful so far, but we have high hopes for the former Doctor Who star on the new Showtime series. Given the fact that Penny Dreadful has been highlighting some of the things that go bump in the night, how does Billie think it compares to all of the creatures on the BBC America show?
“I’ve never been scared by the Daleks myself, Billie told Radio Times, referencing her time as Rose Tyler on Doctor Who. “As much as [Penny Dreadful] has all these supernatural elements [like Doctor Who], I think it’s largely about mortality. It’s about lots of people existing on the outskirts of society and becoming one and living with demons and darkness — and I think all of that is pretty scary. Far scarier than a Dalek!”
We applaud Billie for being able to declare that the Daleks don’t keep her up at night, but unless one of those cyborgs is pointing one of their eyestalks in your face and yelling “Exterminate!” it’s not really fair to pass judgement. That being said, Rose Tyler was never really one-upped by the Daleks on Doctor Who — remember the time she absorbed the TARDIS and became super powerful? Yeah.
Audiences were finally introduced to Brona Croft in Season 1, Episode 2 (“Séance”) of Penny Dreadful when she came to town and befriended Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett). We sense something between these two already — but how long will it take for them to get together?
Either way, we’re excited to see what Billie will bring to her new role on Penny Dreadful. Even if Brona falls into the hands of whatever vampiric creatures are running around Victorian London, it can’t be as bad as getting trapped in a parallel universe, right?
