Billy Ray Cyrus on Daughter Miley: “If They Ain’t Talkin’, You Ain’t Doin’ Nothin’” (VIDEO)

From the beginning — if anyone can really even pinpoint where this Miley Cyrus reinvention truly began — Miley’s dad Billy Ray Cyrus has been her biggest supporter. Whether he’s a fan of her music or her methods of attention grabbing, Billy Ray is an ardent cheerleader of his 20-year-old daughter’s commitment to being herself and doing what she loves.

“Miley’s very smart,” Billy Ray said recently on The Arsenio Hall Show, “she’s thought this thing out in advance of where she was going, and again, going back to her heart and her roots of the music and doing it because that’s who she is.”

The famous father has been asked about Miley at every turn since her raunchy VMAs performance during which she twerked on Robin Thicke and diddled herself with a giant foam finger, among other choice “dance” moves. Billy Ray has dropped his opinions freely on CNN with Piers Morgan and to Entertainment Tonight, he tweeted a very interesting reaction to her NSFW “Wrecking Ball” video, and later he even said that if twerking had been invented and he had a foam finger, he would’ve done the same thing at the VMAs. All the while angering and confusing helicopter parents everywhere.

Miley appeared in a documentary called Miley Cyrus: The Movement Wednesday night on MTV, and Arsenio had to ask Billy Ray’s reaction to the latest Miley installment: “The show last night expressed where she’s going in a direction of reinventing herself, the music; it all evolved naturally,” Billy Ray said. “She, too, is a singer/songwriter that has a great way of expressing herself through the music.”

In an effort to draw to the forefront the thought that’s on all of our minds, Arsenio said Miley seems “very savvy about getting attention, because that’s what this is all about, right?” To which Billy Ray responded in earnest, “If they ain’t talking about you, you probably ain’t doing nothing.”

What do you think of these latest comments by Billy Ray? Did you watch the documentary? What did you think of it?
