Original story (July 29, 2014): Martha Stewart is too classy to say, "Bring it on, $#@%!" — but that's what we think she meant when The Huffington Post asked her about the prospect of Gossip Girl star Blake Lively becoming the new Martha.
"Let her try," Martha told the site.
You see, Blake just launched Preserve, her own lifestyle website, which may end up rivaling Martha's lifestyle empire — though Blake also raved about her "friendship" with Martha in the August issue of Vogue.
Later in the interview, Martha seemed to backpedal on the throwdown comment: "I don't mean that facetiously! I mean, it's stupid, she could be an actress! Why would you want to be me if you could be an actress? I just did a movie yesterday, though — I can't even tell you about it — but I want to be Blake Lively."
Oh, so now Blake's Preserve idea is stupid, huh?
The 72-year-old also remarked that she hadn't seen Blake's "blog" yet. Not website. Blog.
No need for sunscreen, people — because we have serious shade here.
What's your take? Is Martha having fun with a faux-feud? Or does she actually think Blake's idea is folly? Let us know in the comments below.
Update (August 7, 2014): In an interview with E! Online, Blake responds to Martha's comments: "I want to have my own path professionally — and, even as she said, I'm an actress. I'm doing something totally different, so now I sort of have two careers going on, and it'll be interesting to see how it all pans out. But really what it is, is I have two passions. And I think ultimately, I will always be doing both, but one is going to be paying the bills better than the other."
