The Voice: Could Season 5 Have Spelled The End For Blake Shelton?

Everything was going Blake Shelton’s way for a while there on The Voice, but he had the rug pulled out from under him this past season. There’s no denying the adorably bedimpled judge had a target on his back from the start.

After winning three seasons in a row, people seemed to be ready to see someone else steal the spotlight. Plus, there was a bit of backlash surrounding his cocky attitude, with opposing coach Cee Lo Green even saying of the successful country singer, “I think he got a little lazy, a little complacent” during an interview on the Today Show.

"He's a little boastful this season," Christina Aguilera also chimed in. "And he's a little lazy this season."

What’s interesting to note is that his final singer in the competition wasn’t even a country singer, although he did well singing a few country songs while on the show. Perhaps Blake was even more confident in this respect, as he likely thought this was a fresh approach. After two female country singers from his team won the last two seasons, he switched things up with the talented Cole Vosbury. In the end, however, it didn’t pay off..

He also engaged in quite a few Twitter feuds with fans –– one in which he defended Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus against the haters. The other involved backlash he received when the word “Lord” was omitted during his group’s performance of “Will The Circle Be Unbroken?”. While Blake was once adored by the public, there seemed to be a certain amount of animosity directed at him all of a sudden.

Between the negativity from his fellow coaches (some of it admittedly in jest) and from his fans, we wonder if Blake might have run out of luck on The Voice. What do you think? Sound off in the comments!
