Bravo’s new show, Blood, Sweat, and Heels, is set to air in January and features a cast of entrepreneurial vixens who are climbing their way up the social ranks. Of the bunch is longtime blogger and author Demetria Lucas, the Southern Belle who transplanted to Brooklyn, New York and has made a name for herself in the urban community with her sought-after advice on dating, love, and life.
Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with the upcoming reality star, who opened up about living up to her persona on the show and her happy engagement.
Wetpaint Entertainment: From reading your blog, A Belle in Brooklyn, we see that you have a huge passion for empowering women. Do you feel like this show lives up to that?
Demetria Lucas: I’ve spent the last ten years of my life being a writer, informing people, and being a big voice for women. On the show you see that, definitely. You see that I’m very passionate about feminism and women’s rights, and very passionate about Hillary Clinton. I really bring my full self to the table. I didn’t change for the cameras, I’m 100 percent me, flaws and all. I’m always passionate, always empowered, and always focused on the bigger picture which is getting girls’ minds right.
What special aspect of yourself do you really want the audience to see this season?
You know what, I didn’t think that there’d been a woman like me on television before, and that’s why I started my blog, A Belle in Brooklyn, in 2006 and wrote a book. I wanted to fill that gap. I wanted to see someone like me, so being on this show gave me the opportunity. I think I bring passion, a lot of honesty and a lot of intellect.
Speaking of honesty, in the trailer we can see that there’s going to be lots of drama on the show. Who in the cast would you say is the biggest trouble-starter?
I think it’s obvious from the trailer. I don’t like to name names, but I think that’s very obvious when someone’s ripping the door of your hinges. Like … you know!
Are there any other projects you have coming up that you want us to know about?
I’m working on my second book, it’s called Don’t Waste Your Pretty: The Go-to Guide for Making Smarter Decisions in Life and Love. I’m also revamping my website, so I’m excited about that. I also have a dining app inspired from having gone on about fifty thousand date nights with my fiancée. We were like, “We should do something with this!” I know of all these great restaurants, so I’m going to share them with my fans and readers.
When are you and your fiancé getting married? Do you have a date yet?
I have not announced that yet but we have a date. It’s in 2014.
Do you plan on having any children and growing a family?
No, I think we’re good with just the two of us actually. Just me and him, I can’t foresee a kid in our future.
Blood, Sweat, and Heels premieres January 5, 2014 at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo. Will you tune in?
