Listen up, haters. Bobbi Kristina Brown and her new husband Nick Gordon don’t care what you think about their union. In fact, it seems all that criticism may have brought the controversial couple even closer together.
The young newlyweds, who married in a secret wedding earlier this month, are speaking out for the first time since announcing their marital status, with Bobbi telling Extra, “[The haters] lit a fire up under our ass and we went haulin'.” Haulin’ to the justice of the peace, that is.
Since announcing their engagement, 20-year-old Bobbi and Nick, 24, have faced a lot of criticism for their relationship. That’s largely because Bobbi’s mother, the late Whitney Houston, had informally (i.e. not legally) adopted Nick when he was 12 and effectively raised him as Bobbi’s brother.
The critics can say whatever they want to say,” Nick says, dismissively. “It's like we have a force field and that s—t's just bouncing off of it.”
Bobbi and her new husband also want the public to know that the people whose opinions really matter to them support their union, with Bobbi claiming her mother would be pleased if she were still alive. “She wanted this. This is something she wanted to see.”
As for the rumors that grandma Cissy Houston was against the marriage, Bobbi Kristina says nothing could be further from the truth. “She told both of us that she loved us very, very, very much, and Nick came up and he said ‘Grandma, I want to marry her. Is it okay? I need your blessing to do this. If I don’t have your blessing I won’t feel right,’” Bobbi claims. “She smiled very wide and said, ‘Yes, son, you have my blessing.’”
That seems to be a change of heart from Cissy’s disapproving open letter to her granddaughter last summer. “Do I want you to get married in the near future? No, I don’t. I think you’re too young and I wish you’d wait.”
We guess Grandma must have come around.
