Remember when Bones used to be more about stomach-churning crime scene gross-outs than all the cute babies and adorable parenting moments we’ve been getting as of late? You know, back when slime, mold and rotting corpses were a dime a dozen, and little baby Christine wasn’t even a twinkle in her mother’s (goggle-covered) eye?
Well, Bones remembers those days, too. And the show seems to be feeling a bit of nostalgia — because Monday night’s Season 8, Episode 3: "The Gunk in the Garage" is all about the gross-outs and the goo.
This week’s case found the Jeffersonian crew investigating a body that had been literally blown to smithereens by a bomb. You’ve got the stomach chilling out on the ground a few feet away. Part of the brain’s hanging out in the corner. But where’s the intestine? Oh, right. It’s that putrid, bloody mess that just plopped itself down squarely on top of Hodgins’s (TJ Thyne) face. Sounds... tasty?
For the record, though, baby Christine and all her infant-related adorability weren’t missing from this episode entirely. Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) bickered over what sort of stroller to to get her, and Booth’s deliberations about whether or not to go after a big new promotion at work showed that he’s taking his role as a father very seriously.
We’re now three episodes into Bones’s eighth season — and the first of the four bonus episodes has now hit the air, as well. So what did you think of tonight’s show? Was it everything you were hoping for — or do you think Season 8 still hasn’t found it’s footing quite yet? Head below to sound off.
