There have been a whopping 121 episodes of Bones so far. Given that Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) feature centrally in every single one, there have been more B&B moments than we can count. As a tribute to these partners in crime-solving (who desperately need to get together), we’ve cobbled together our 10 favorite moments of all time. Did we miss YOUR top pick? Let us know in the comments below!
10. Brennan, Booth, and Booze (Season 6, Episode 13)
Some may call it sad, but we say the moment between Brennan and Booth in “The Daredevil in the Mold” was long awaited. Sure, we felt for Seeley as he drowned his brokenhearted sorrows in whiskey after Hannah left him, but it was nice to see B&B finally acknowledging that there was/is something between them.
We’ll admit we took a big gulp when Booth told Brennan, “I’m just really mad at all of you.” But we’re pretty sure he didn’t remember the barb in the morning — even though David Boreanaz’s performance was nothing if not memorable.
9. Brennan, Booth, and the Future (Season 6, Episode 16)
We were all (not-so-secretly) rooting for a Brennan-and-Booth hookup in “The Blackout in the Blizzard.” After all, they find themselves stuck in a dark elevator with nowhere to go; what else are they going to do? Talk about their feelings? Well, they do that, but it doesn’t go as well as we’d hoped.
Instead, they put their intentions down on paper, writing down dates when they think they’ll be ready to explore a relationship. Before they burn them, we catch Booth sneaking a peek at Brennan’s paper. We’re not sure who’s more excited for B&B to be together: him or us?
8. Brennan, Booth, and Basketball (Season 3, Episode 11)
There is no denying that Booth is a bonafide jock. (Did you see how excited he got over a bunch of stadium chairs in “The Blackout in the Blizzard”?) Looking back, it was super-cute to watch him get equally giddy in Season 3’s “Player Under Pressure.”
The Bones episode revolves around the investigation of a college basketball player found dead under the bleachers. Brennan admits to not understanding jocks, or even sports in general. Shocking! But that doesn’t stop her from sneaking a basketball when no one’s looking. We’re surprised to see her sink it, but the look on her face tells us she knew she could do it. Booth would have been so proud of his little brainiac.
7. Brennan, Booth, and Bullets (Season 6, Episode 14)
We’re all for any Bones episode where the focus is romance, and nothing says love and hearts more than Valentine’s Day. One of our favorite scenes between Booth and Bones has to be in “The Bikini in the Soup.”
In this gooey episode (and we’re not even talking about the soupy victim), B&B spend the evening together in the most romantic way a pair of crime solvers could do: at a shooting range firing guns. But these aren’t just any old guns! Sweetheart that Brennan is, she surprised Booth by pulling out two Tommy guns. Any girl who can get excited about an automatic weapon is definitely the girl for Booth.
6. Brennan, Booth, and Rock Camp (Season 5, Episode 19)
Despite Booth’s best attempts, it’s not easy to get Brennan to lighten up because she takes her job very seriously. She would probably explain it by saying, “It is a very serious subject matter that requires a vast knowledge on the topic, one that I have trained many years in.”
So in Bones' Season 5’s “The Rocker in the Rinse Cycle,” it was totally out of character for her to join Booth on stage at Rock & Roll Camp and belt out Foreigner’s “Hot Blooded.” She even impressed Booth with her guitar skills. But the craziest thing was that Brennan had technically never played a guitar before — only a bunch of other instruments we couldn’t name, let alone spell.
5. Booth, Brennan, and a Baby (Season 3, Episode 12)
Booth, Brennan and a baby. What could be more adorable? In season three’s “The Baby in the Bough,” B&B make the perfect little family when they are forced to look after a baby whose mother has died. Booth – who has a son of his own — immediately goes into daddy mode.
We heart the scene where Booth is forced to change the baby’s diaper; meanwhile Brennan can do nothing but marvel at his paternal powers. Or maybe she’s just busy envisioning B&B makes three? We know we are!
4. Booth, Brennan, and Boxing (Season 2, Episode 8)
Who could forget “Tony” and “Roxanne” from Season 2’s “The Woman in the Sand”? ‘Memba the Vegas episode in which Booth and Brennandress up like high rollers and pretend to be engaged? They play lovebirds like a couple of naturals. Sure, we swooned — but we also wanted to scream, “WHY CAN’T THEY BE LIKE THIS FOR REAL?”
And how about their outfits? Bones amped up the sexy while Booth looked like he walked out of a scene from the Godfather.
Brennan’s makeover surely doesn’t go unnoticed by her partner. If only he would have followed that swift swat on the butt he gave her with an “I love you, Bones.” Then we might be getting somewhere!
3. Brennan and Booth As Brits (Season 4, Episode 1)
The only way Booth and Brennan could be any cuter as a crime-solving team is if they had British accents. Enter what Booth describes to Brennan as “the English version of me and you”: police officer Kate Pritchard and Professor Ian Wexler.
In Season 4,’s “The Yanks in the U.K.,” the D.C. residents fly across the pond to hobnob with British peers in their fields. There, they meet a pair of co-workers with the same job descriptions and the same penchant for name-calling.
Wexler introduces his American counterpart, Brennan, to his partner, saying, “[She’s] exactly like me.”
When Officer Pritchard replies, “Charming, tenacious, salacious, sophomoric…,” Wexler quips, “Flattery will get you absolutely nowhere.”
For B&B, it’s like looking in a mirror.
2. Booth, Brenn, and One-Liners (Season 1, Episode 17)
Season 1’s “The Skull in the Desert,” Brennan and Booth spend most of the episode helping Angela investigate her boyfriend’s murder in Sante Fe — or as Booth calls it — “One of the hottest places in the universe. Next stop: Hell.”
But when their ride abandons them in a “Godforsaken part of the desert” — another Booth one-liner — they start to panic. Even the usually calm Brennan worries about their future, asking Booth, “How long do you think we’ll survive out here?” “Three days max,” says Booth. And with them being “five days minimum” from the highway, Brennan can only proclaim: “I don’t like that math.”
We’ll never get enough of their witty banter.
1. Booth and Brennan as Mr. and Mrs. (Season 4, Episode 26)
Remember when we told you how we love it when Brennan and Booth play make believe? Well, no episode has been more unbelievable than the dream sequence in the Season 4 finale, “The End in the Beginning.” We knew something wasn’t quite right, but we didn’t care: It was amazing to see Booth and “Brenn” — as he calls her — happily married. (Message to the producers: Please turn this into reality.)
One odd aspect of the dream was that being Mrs. B. had Temperance caring a lot more about her appearance. She spent the entire episode in pretty clothes and (gasp!) makeup. But the fact that we even noticed was pretty impressive, considering we were busy watching Booth walk around “their bedroom” with no pants on. It doesn’t get any sweeter than that.
