In Bones’ penultimate Season 8 episode, Brennan took a risk by pretending to inject a suspect with a deadly virus to save Arastoo. As Emily Deschanel recently told reporters, the doctor isn’t done with those bold overtures. In the Season 8 finale, with Pelant targeting Booth (David Boreanaz), she may have to go to extremes again.

Emily hints, “Brennan is willing to go farther than she’s ever gone to protect somebody that she loves ... to protect them, to protect her life with them.”

That could mean Booth — or  Sweets (John Francis Daley). “Pelant is targeting Booth, but it’s affecting Sweets as well,” says Emily. “Pelant has taken information that he’s learned from Sweets and is toying with him as well, while he’s on this killing rampage.”

Killing rampage? That does not sound good. In fact, the brilliant but deadly hacker may not be working solo. “He’s possibly recruiting other people to do work for him,” Emily teases.

Perhaps that’s why the Season 8 finale may not spell the end of Pelant. “There will be some closure, but the story is definitely ongoing,” explains the actress. “That’s not to say we haven’t captured him in some way. It’s never simple. He’s very tricky. He’s very wiley in his ways.”

In fact, Emily ranks him as Bones’ most frightening serial, most formidable serial killer: “I find him terrifying in his calm, steely way. His nerdiness you’d think would make him less scary, but it’s more scary,” she says.

Tune in to the Bones Season 8 finale on April 29 on Fox.
