Get ready to meet Brennan’s (Emily Deschanel) mom... again!
Over the past eight seasons of Bones, we’ve only gotten a glimpse of Brennan’s mom, Christine Brennan (nee Ruth Keenan), and mostly just in flashbacks. Now, the show has decided to bring her her back again, and they’ve cast a new actress to portray her.
TV Guide reports that former Melrose Place star Brooke Langton (Samantha Reilly) has been cast to play Mama Christine in an upcoming episode of Season 8. During “A Shot in the Dark,” Brennan will have a near-death experience after she is shot, and she’ll see her mother while she is in an “altered state.”
So, yes, Brennan and her mama do appear to be about the same age — but that is because Brennan is remembering her now-deceased mother as she was back before she and Brennan’s dad, Russ, disappeared and left their children behind.
"This near-death experience was a way for us to reintroduce [Brennan's] mother in a very personal way," executive producer Stephen Nathan tells TV Guide.
"We get to see her mom and her relationship with her mother. What happened on the day her mother left?"
After Brennan’s encounter with her mom, the always-rational scientist will have to decide whether or not she believes the encounter actually occurred, or whether it was a hallucination.
"There is one thing [Brennan] can't explain,” creator Hart Hanson teases. “She learns something in the after-death experience that she can't explain and that is troubling for her."
