David Boreanaz: Bones Season 7 Doesn't Need Dinosaurs
Once upon a time, we reported that Bones executive producer Hart Hanson was all set to receive a prestigious reward at the Austin Film Festival for his stellar work in television. Now that the festival is in progress, we’re pleased to say that Hanson was not pleased simply to take the award and go. Instead, he sat down with David Boreanaz (Booth) and answered some burning Bones questions!
After a subtle dig at Terra Nova (“We don’t have any dinosaurs on our show!”), Boreanaz reiterated the conviction, oft-delivered by Hanson, that Emily Deschanel (Brennan)’s pregnancy was a good development for the show. Hanson, for his part, wanted to “pique” the audience with all the will-the-or-won’t-they stuff, but he was dead set on cementing the two leads by Season 6 at the earliest — and if not then, then definitely Season 7. (He acknowledges that “we failed very often not to make the audience really mad, but they stuck with us.”)
One unfortunate interrogator wanted to know about Booth’s mother, but Hanson promptly shot her down. “We have a really, really strong Booth’s dad story,” Hanson demurred, but Boreanaz at least acknowledged that “I hope we find out about my mother.” Hanson at least agreed with that!
Lots of fascinating information follows, including how Hanson organizes entire seasons at the beginning of the year and how he goes about picking directors for his episodes (with a lot of praise for Boreanaz!). We’re really indebted to the two for sitting down and indulging us — and they’re so cheerful about it, to boot!
