The first Season 8 question on fans’ minds is where are we going to pick up when the series returns? Bones Season 7 Finale “The Past in the Present” left off with Brennan (Emily Deschanel) on the run and Booth (David Boreanaz) having lost his badge, and according to Stephen, it’s going to take time to clear Brennan’s name. “It's going to begin three months later, so it's almost real time, Brennan still on the run with Max (Ryan O’Neal), Booth powerless to do anything about it. “ He adds, “The frustration has built over those three months. Booth losing his family, Angela (Michaela Conlin) losing her best friend, and everyone losing to Pelant [Andrew Leeds] — people just start to crack.”

We definitely saw some of those fractures begin to form at the end of Season 7, but Stephen explains that the high tensions will force tough choices, elaborating “So it's how to do the wrong thing and have it turn out right so that we can bring everyone back together.” That’s right — Brennan and Booth will reunite, “by the second episode.” Stephen says, “I think everybody wants them to get back together as quickly as possible, and we don't want to piss anybody off.”

What about fans who aren’t so happy to have hopped on the B&B relationship express? Stephen assures, “It [the show] will be murder of the week [...] we're just going to try to find the most challenging murders we can possibly do.” He adds, “It's still going to be funny — the show is still a light, romantic crimedy, and that will continue. But there'll be a little bit of a darker tone this season. Relationships have been tested and that will continue.”

Praise Baby Christine — Season 8 kicks off on Monday, September 17 at 8pm!
