As Season 6 of Bones races toward its much-anticipated finale, we caught up with Michaela Conlin. In a Wetpaint exclusive interview, Michaela told us how playing free-spirited Angela has affected her, a new baby shocker for Angela and Hodgins (TJ Thyne), and the one BIG secret Hart Hanson let her in on.

Wetpaint: Your new movie The Lincoln Lawyer just premiered. Do you have any other film projects in the works?

Michaela Conlin: Not that I’m in, not yet — I’m reading stuff for our hiatus now. But I did recently produce a film that will hopefully be going to festivals soon. It’s called Sparrows Dance. It was written and directed by Noah Buschel whose last movie, The Missing Person, went to Sundance in 2009. This is his follow-up movie. It’s about an agoraphobic woman [Marin Ireland] who hasn’t left her apartment in over a year and she ends up falling in love with her plumber [Paul Sparks]. It’s a really, really special little script. It’s pretty great.

What would you be doing if you weren’t an actress?

A few different things, I think. I really love gardening. I love floral arrangements and planting things, so maybe something in regards to that — maybe some sort of organic farmer. Or maybe a travel writer? That would be a lot of fun. And I also really enjoy producing, so I’d love to do that again at some point.

Since Caroline was referred to as the “heart” of the team in Season 1, what body part of the team would Angela be?

I’ve always actually heard that Angela was the heart of the team. I don’t know — [series creator] Hart [Hanson] is always saying that Angela is the heart of the show. But if I had to pick another one, maybe the mouth of the group. Yeah, I would say that would be second in line.

Can you tease anything about the baby and Angela’s pregnancy?

You know, we’re pretty close to the end of the season. In the last episode they found out that there’s a very good chance that the baby could have the gene for a disease called Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis which can cause blindness in children. So Hodgins and Angela are dealing with that for the rest of the season, but there’s also another surprise they’re both faced with before the end of the season. That’s all I can really say unfortunately.

Would you like to see Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz) hook up?

Yes. Even before Sweets (John Francis Daley) started kind of pushing them together, from Season 1 I think Angela was telling Brennan to lock him down. She’s always been a pretty big Brennan-Booth ‘shipper. But I also think she knows that the two of them — you know, it’s a precarious relationship when you work together and they’re incredibly close. I think there’s a time and place for everything and Angela wants them to get together, but she wants it to be when they’re both ready emotionally.

What does a typical Saturday night for Angela and Hodgins entail?

Well, right now being that she’s eight months pregnant, it’s her eating usually. She used to be such a wild child but presently I don’t think she’d be doing very much of anything. I think she’s watching American Idol and eating ice cream on the couch.

Do you know Angela’s *REAL* name was before she changed it?

Yes, but I can’t tell you that. [Laughs] I don’t know if Hart’s planning on releasing that by the end of the series, but that’s a pretty big secret. I guess at this point in the series I like to be surprised about certain things, but I do happen to know that one because it was brought up at the end of last season. It was a name that she really wanted to change.

What’s your favorite part of being on Bones?

Getting to go to work and act for 12 hours a day. It’s clichéd to say it, but it really is a dream come true in so many ways — to show so many sides of a character that you really don’t get to show normally. As an actor, if a show goes a season you’re lucky. In a feature, if you have more than three scenes you’re lucky. To be able to show so many different facets of one person is kind of an awesome responsibility. I was kind of bummed by a scene I did last week, I didn’t think it went well. But I went in yesterday and I felt like I could do something different and try something new. When you work with people who are like your family it’s a very safe environment. There are so many great things about it honestly. It changed my life.

Who’s your favorite squintern?

Well, Angela certainly had a penchant for Wendell [Michael Grant Terry], since they were sleeping together for a time. So I guess I’d say Wendell. Although personally I get a kick out of all of them. They’re crazy talented. Carla [Gallo] is hilarious. Eugene [Byrd] is great. Joel [Moore] is awesome. But just because Angela’s been in the sack with Wendell, I’d have to say he’s her favorite.

Do you ever apply the knowledge you’ve learned in the show to real-life scenarios?

None of the technical stuff, no. But I think Angela’s ability to be honest and direct was a really good thing for me personally because I’m more conservative than she is and I tend to kind of sit on what I think. She does not think about anything before she says it, she just says it. There’s something very freeing about that. She’s definitely rubbed off on me a little bit in the past six seasons.

Lightning round:

Emily Deschanel: Lovely.
David Boreanaz: Strong.
John Francis Daley: Hilarious.
Tamara Taylor: Sweetheart.
Hart Hanson: Awesome.
TJ Thyne: Husband.
