During the most recent episode of The Vampire Diaries (Season 5, Episode 8: “Dead Man on Campus”), Caroline let Elena know how she truly felt about her boyfriend Damon — but the harsh sentiment divided the fans.
Some think Caroline is being hypocritical (how can she hate on Damon but feel sympathetic for Katherine?), while others believe she’s justified in her anger (he did take advantage of her in Season 1), but co-creator Julie Plec has clearly chosen a side.
“Speaking of picking fights, Caroline Forbes is Off. Limits,” the executive producer tweeted on November 23. Clearly, Julie is on Team Caroline.
That’s not to say, however, she doesn’t like Damon — but when it comes to Caroline’s distaste for the snarky vampire, it’s justifiable. Back in Season 1, Caroline had a crush on Damon, who used her little crush to his own advantage. Caroline would wear scarves around her neck to cover the bruises and bite marks left from when Damon fed on her — and he compelled her to do so. Then, when Caroline became a vampire in Season 2, the memories Damon compelled her to forget came flooding back. Caroline has pretty much hated Damon ever since. (She’s firmly Team Stelena, too.)
Caroline has every right to be angry at Damon, but when it comes to her relationship with Elena, should she be more understanding? After all, Damon and Caroline would both do anything to protect Elena. And that’s got to count for something, right?
So what do you think, TVD fans? Is Caroline’s anger justified? Or is she being a hypocrite?
