Kanye West Explains “Bound 2” Video — Did He Mean to be Funny?

Still mulling over that Kanye West video for “Bound 2”? Never fear. Yeezus is here to show you the way.

In an interview with morning radio’s The Breakfast Show, 'Ye explained his thinking behind the eyebrow-raising video, which starred his topless fiancée, Kim Kardashian. “I wanted to take white trash T-shirts and make it into a video,” he says.

When asked point blank by Breakfast Show co-host Charlamagne Tha God if he wanted “Bound 2” to look bad, Kanye replies, “Yes. I wanted it to look as phony as possible. I wanted the clouds to go one direction, the mountains to go one direction, the horses to go over there.”

Okay, okay we’re getting it...and then Kanye throws another curveball by referencing the biggest movie in the world right now.

“I want to show you that this is The Hunger Games,” he says. “I want to show you that this is the type of imagery that’s been presented to all of us. And the only difference is a black dude in the middle of it.”

The Hunger Games, huh? Maybe we’re missing something, but Kanye driving around on a motorcycle with a bouncy Kimmy K doesn’t exactly translate to death arena full of bloodthirsty tributes. Maybe a bow and arrow would have helped? That is if Kanye wanted to be overt, which we kinda doubt. This guy is so subtle sometimes it seems even he doesn’t get his own messages.

When Charlemagne suggests Kanye should have swapped out himself and Kim for the SNL actors who play them, the rap mogul explained he wasn’t really trying to be funny (unlike another dynamic duo). “This is, like, performance art,” Kanye says. “The thing is, I don’t got a problem with looking stupid. I don’t have a problem with making mistakes in front of people.”

What do you think? Was “Bound 2” a mistake or did Kanye have a master plan in mind? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
