There aren’t many shows on TV that feature pre-teens shooting guns and killing people, but The Walking Dead is most definitely one of them. In the Season 4 midseason finale, Lizzie Samuels (Brighton Sharbino) shot The Governor’s (David Morrissey) cronie Alisha straight in the head, thanks to Carol Peletier’s (Melissa McBride) walker and self-defense training.
At the time, that moment was a pretty big deal — though TWD’s showrunner, Scott Gimple, assured naysayers that it was part of a larger story arc. “I like to say that scene, however sensational it is in the moment, was there to serve that Carol story,” he reasoned. “We’ll be addressing that in the future. It’s all part of a greater story. It’s important to know that that wasn’t just some big, sensational moment.”
Seeing as how there are only three episodes of Season 4 left, we’d say they better be addressing it soon. We know that Season 4, Episode 14: “The Grove”, airing this Sunday, will feature Carol, Tyreese (Chad Coleman), Lizzie, Mika Samuels (Kyla Kenedy), and baby Judith; so it’s possible we could have some answers in a matter of days.
Even though Lizzie shooting Alisha got plenty of attention, we never heard how Brighton felt about that pivotal moment. Until now. The 11-year-old actress tells Daily Dead, “Oh, that was so much fun. I was really excited about that scene. The fake gun was actually hard to click back so I was using three fingers just to pull the trigger. I was really excited, though! When I first read that in the script, I was so excited, I couldn’t fall asleep that night!”
We suppose that’s the kind of thing that would be exciting to a pre-teen, but we just hope that Lizzie doesn’t end up using her skills to do something bad that she won’t be able to take back. We have a feeling someone may die this Sunday, so let’s just cross our fingers and pray Lizzie has nothing to do with it!
