Care about your hearing? Might want to stuff some cotton in those old earholes because we’ve got a little something special for you. Audio of Britney Spears supposedly “warming up” has leaked online and to our admittedly untrained ears it sounds more like bad karaoke than a professional singer tuning the pipes.
Watch the video above to hear the whole brutal bit for yourself. If you can’t quite make it out (or can’t bear to listen past the first couple of seconds) that’s Britney singing her hit “Alien.” But where the final product pumped out on radios has an hypnotic quality about it as Brit hits out-of-this-world notes, the pre-worked over version is desperately in need of some help.
The producer behind the track, William Orbit, has since come forth, defending Britney. “I’d like to affirm that ANY singer when first at the mic at the start of a long session can make a multitude of vocalisations in order to get warmed up,” he writes on his Facebook.
“Vocalisations,” hmm? Tell us more, Billy. “Warming up is essential if you’re a pro, as it is with a runner doing stretches, and it takes a while to do properly,” he continues. “I’ve heard all manner of sounds emitted during warmups. The point is that it is not supposed to be shared with millions of listeners.”
That’s nice but really? Might Britney actually sound that alien?
What do you think? Is she better than she sounds, or this the real deal?
