Maybe Lifetime should consider giving their many made-for-TV biopics a rest for a little while. The cable network has dealt with a lot of backlash this year, thanks to its upcoming Whitney Houston movie — which the diva’s family has expressed strong disapproval over — and the now-cancelled Aaliyah film. They did, however, succeed in making The Brittany Murphy Story, but the late actress’s father is not happy about it…
Angelo Bertolotti, who lost his daughter at age 32 in 2009, went on a Twitter rant this week against the movie — particularly the actress who plays Brittany, Amanda Fuller.
“My daughter #brittanymurphy would be horrified to know who they chose to play her and how cheap it all is,” Angelo begins, before adding, ““#brittanymurphy would have been MORTIFIED if she knew what a mockery they made of her life and her gorgeous looks and talent. #Unauthorized.”
But Brittany’s dad wasn’t done just yet, even further insulting his daughter’s 30-year-old portrayer by tweeting that she “defiled” Brittany. #WayharshTai.
For her part, Last Man Standing star Amanda defended the project in an interview with The TV Page, saying, “It is what it is. All of our hearts were in the right place.”
It should be noted that the Clueless actress was reportedly estranged from her father at the time of her death, though it’s Angelo who currently wants her cause of death case reopened, suspecting that she was killed by rat poisoning.
The Brittany Murphy Story airs Saturday, September 6 at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime.
